Not legging, not tights, not capri pants – but shorts. And the Nike Tempo running shorts in particular. Of course there are months in the year where fear of frostbite prohibits me from wearing these but, and this may surprise some of the international reader who think of England as cold and wet 95% of the year, but I wear my shorts to run in for more weeks of the year than I wear warmer kit. I don’t look forward to getting back to wearing my leggings during the summer months but I do look forward to wearing my shorts when I have my leggings on. So for that reason, running shorts are, too me, one of the most indespensible piesec of kit I own.
What’s more, and I find it hard to believe I’m going to write this, I think that these shorts are almost flattering. Now, I know that we don’t choose to run because of what we look like while we’re doing it – the sweating, red face and (if you’re like me) snot is enough to make my own mother want to me and that’s before we even think about the unflattering neons and lycra that most running kit tends to come in. But sometimes, when my kit is fresh from the laundry and I’m about to set off on a run, I look at myself and think I might look quite OK.
Reasd the rest of the Top 10.
nice colour. I was thinking about getting some shorts just like these.
Elizabeth – I love them, and there’s so many colours but so far I’ve restrained myself to two pairs. Roll on next summer.
