I felt like I was at a children’s party today playing the game where you have to see how many items of clothing you can put on in one minute. But in fact I was just going out for a run in the snow. Here’s what I wore:
socks
leg warmers
running tights
jogging bottoms
long sleeve wicking top
t-shirt
hoodie
cap
gloves
another pair of gloves.
Excessive? Maybe. But as we all know, getting out the door is sometimes the hardest part of a run and so adding extra layres to give you the confidence to step out into the cold can help. You can always shed them as you go if you get too hot. Here’s some more tips.
I ran six miles through the snow and really enjoyed it. It was my usual six-mile route but the snow made it a bit more of a challenge. And although I’ve run this route hundreds of times, a few inches of snow made it feel like I was discovering it all over again.
So get out and enjoy the snow. I guarantee, romping through virgin snow and hearing it creek under your feet will make you feel like a kid again. And not just because of the amount of clothes you’re wearing.
