It’s time to look back on 2010 and take stock of what has been achieved. I’m probably a bit late with this – the TV shows that reflect on the best songs or worst films of a year generally air about three months before the conclusion of the year. Call me old fashioned but a year isn’t finished until a new one has begun. So here’s my year of running in an easy to digest graph, courtesy of the magic of Fetch Everyone.
I was asked what I need to do to hit my targets for 2011 and looking at this graph I’d say more consistent and slightly higher mileage. It’s wise to take time off after a big race to let your body recover and to revive your social life which has probably suffered as a result of training, but I need to get back into a routine sooner after a race. But here’s my main achievements for the year:
First marathon complete 4.31
800 miles run for the year
Half-marathon PB 1.56
10k PB 51.06
Most of the 61 miles that I ran in December were in the last two weeks as I tried to get my mileage up to 800 for the year. That’s the main reason that I’m taking it easy for the first few days of Janathon.
Janathon Day 2
Today’s run was another 1-mile affair. Today I ran it in 8min 53sec. It made me wonder about how fast I could run a mile if I only had a mile to run so I might look up a 1-mile race for 2011. Running just one mile is something I haven’t done since that was the limit of how far I could run. It seems fitting that I should be running that distance for for the first two days of January as I bet there’s a lot of people who have just started running this week and for whom running a mile is a huge achievement. If you’re one of them, well done. I promise it will get easier and that, if you stick with it, you’ll find running one of the most rewarding things you’ll do.
I was thinking of running a mile in January, then again in June, and again in December to see how it altered over the year.
Although with Janathon I opted not to push myself too much, so might do it towards the end of the month if my legs are up for it!

I love a good graph 😀 Impressive mileage last year!
That’s really impressive! Great PBs too, well done!
I’ve found that running shorter distances quickly does wonders for your long distance times – perhaps throw in a few “fast as you can” 1-2 milers now and then… I’m sure you’ll be surprised at how much it can help your all round efforts. Well done with keeping the miles up all year round too – my problem is that I tend to blow hot and cold with running and often have months off (like the whole of Dec!) which is no good for you. That graph looks mighty impressive!
a good year and a good start. Not really seeing much lazy girl! Happy running
