After weeks of debating and deliberating, I’ve finally chosen which marathon schedule I’ll ignore for 16 weeks in the run up to my next marathon. It’s a Runners’ World schedule and I’ve already been customising it… when I say customising – I mean colouring in.
I’ve marked it up with a few key dates so you can expect blog posts on these topics as the weeks progress. I think it’s wise to be realistic about these things.
Love it ! Sounds a bit like my quest to give up chocolate…. Or alcohol…..
If you find the RW schedule gets tough to follow, you might consider whether it’s really necessary to run 5 sessions a week. I’ve run my last three marathons on three sessions only per week (1 long slow, 1 mid length tempo, 1 short fartlek or hills) and I think it’s a good formula. Then again I know you are aiming for a half hour PB so you probably want to feel you are giving it 110%.
Best of luck!

That looks great. Good luck with the training and achieving your PB. I’m training for a marathon at the moment too and found that pinning the plan to the wall and looking at it every morning keeps me on track with training.
Dan, running five days a week will be a step up for me. I’m going to see how it goes. I’m basically using the plan as a guide but, as a disciple of Matt Fitzgerald’s ‘Run’ I’ll be trusting my instinct and adapting it depending on how I feel week to week.
