Struggling to motivate yourself to run today, here’s five very good reasons why you should stop fighting it and go for a run.

ONE
You won’t have to run tomorrow. Think how pleased with you your future self will be. Don’t you want to be that person tomorrow who gets to sit down knowing they banked a run the day before. If yesterday-you hadn’t screwed you over that could be you now.

TWO
Right now you’re probably using up a considerable amount of mental energy debating with yourself whether or not you should run today, trying to find reasons not to and failing at convincing yourself you should do it. If you just went out for a run you could save all that mental energy and who knows what you’d be able to acheive with it. You might have your Dragons’ Den idea. Or maybe finish a crossword.

THREE
You want to have run, you’d just rather not have to do the running bit. So instead of thinking about the running bit, think about the smug post-run afterglow of sweat and how pleased with yourself you’ll be for actually doing it.

FOUR
You’ll never regret a run that you did, only the runs you didn’t do. Well, maybe not never. If a dog bit you of a run you’d probably regret going on that one – or at least going on that route. But think back on all the runs you’ve done. Have you ever got back and gone ‘well, I wish I hadn’t done that’. No, probably not.

FIVE
You can tell people that you went for a run. There’s probably a few annoying doubters in your life who think you won’t stick at this running lark and that it’s just a phase. Stick it to them by going for a run today and then casually dropping it into conversation. It doesn’t have to be a real conversation – ones in you head work just as well sometimes.
