“It didn’t have a name on it so I opened it,” grinned the postie as he held up two pairs of running briefs. The audience of my open plan office settled in for the show. I am too wise in the subterranean world of work banter to rise to this.
“No worries,” I said reaching out for them.
“What are these for then?” The postie quizzed moving them from hand to hand.
“They’re running nappies,” chirped the legal officer, our rolling news correspondent on the state of printer toner.
“They are so things don’t drop out,” came a giggle from the marketing department.
This could escalate. I stood up.
“The idea is to avoid my balls looking like I have taken a cheese grater to them,” I said as my boss walked onto the floor.
He looked at the postie, the pants and me. He continued walking, entered his office and slowly, but emphatically, closed the door.
The audience returned to their email and my running pants finally arrived.
Non-runners don’t really understand ‘the chafe’. I have items of kit that have been through more extreme environments than the loafers of a Japanese nuclear technician. The reason I keep using them is because they are comfortable and can help me survive 16 or 18 mile runs without looking like I’ve stumbled out of a sex dungeon. The downside to this is that when I’m running in the gym the blood stains round the nipple areas of my favourite top made the boxfit instructor cry.
I needed some new kit and LazyGirl got me a bundle of the new range of running ware from Aldi. Yes, I said Aldi. I am currently working my though it. They appear to have an idea about gear and I debuted a new running top and shorts at the gym this week. The boxfit man seemed relieved and I was chafe-free. Admittedly this was only after a 4 mile taper run, so more difficult days lie ahead for this kit. It may remain for the gym, but this range look like a simple, stylish and inexpensive kit option to me.
Aldi’s Specialbuy Running range is in stores nationwide on Thursday 3 April. Phil will be trying to avoid chafing at Manchester marathon next weekend.
Didn’t know Aldis sold running gear. Good luck avoiding the chafe! Have you tried Body Glide?
I need to check out Aldis. I keep saying I am gonna go and then get lazy. Definitely going this weekend! Thanks for the tip.
I swear by my two Under Armour sleeveless compression vests under my kit when running and in the Gym to avoid the dreaded nipple rub. I learnt the hard way and have got the photos to prove it!
