Sometimes it takes an outsider to see where things are going wrong and to offer a solution. And sometimes, just explaining what the problem is out loud can help you start to make sense of it.
Together with my ace friend Liz Goodchild, we’re going to help you with your training and motivation problems. If you can’t get past that first week of a training plan before giving up, if the goals you set for yourself back in January seem like an unrealistic idea now, if you just can’t bring yourself to put your trainers on, we want to hear from you.
Liz will get to the bottom of what your issue is and what’s stopping you following through with your intentions, and I’ll offer practical steps you can take to get back on track.
Just email us your issue and we’ll record a special podcast issue addressing some of the messages we receive. You don’t have to give your real name – and we won’t reveal it.
You can tell us what’s going wrong for you in the comments below, or you can email hello@lazygirlrunning.com with the subject line: ‘Here’s the thing…’

Hello
Thanks for your message. We’ll be recording the podcast tomorrow and will try to get through as many questions as possible. If we don’t manage to answer yours directly, there may be others that are similar to yours that you find helpful.
Kind regards
Laura and Liz.
Hi,
I wondered if you’ve any advice for someone thinking of doing a duathlon, 5k/22k/2.5k, I know I could do all individually, I’m just unsure how I would cope doing them back to back.
Thank you for your blogs, they really do motivate me!
Hello. I’d practice doing smaller amounts of running and cycling one after another. You don’t need to do the full amount prior to race day but do practice getting used to cycling immediately after running and vice versa.
Have fun!
I ran my first marathon this past Memorial Day weekend and loved it. Two weeks later I had a tummy tuck so I was unable to get back into running. Now that I have been cleared to do all activities, I can’t seem to lace up again. I have gained weight too during this recovery, so I know I need to get going. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Heres the thing, I have been a regular runner for over 7 years now. Im training at the minute for the GNR and am enjoying the focus again of a proper plan, but am really stuggling with feeling so tired and fatigued after going back to the harder sessions.
I am also strength training twice a week to improve my strength (obvs) to help with my goal for GNR.
Any advice on how to keep my energy levels up with increased training load.
Im a new reader of your blog but love it, very motivating and great to read you writing about everyone having a bad run occasionally
Hi there,
I used to train up to 5 times a week to complete in my 1st marathon in April 2015, I run 5ks,10ks & half marathons up to the event. Returned to training in mid May 2015, (going out for a run 4 times a week ). In late July had to undergo a surgery (appendicitis), wasn’t allowed to go back to sports till October. In the meantime I graduated from uni, left old job, got married, moved homes and countries, found a new job and it seems that I can’t get back to my old running regime. I think the biggest struggle is the weather (cold and lack of Sun). I don’t like the treadmill. Any advice how to get my running mojo/ routine back? Thanks a lot!
Hello
We recorded the podcast last week and it should be live tomorrow. While it’s not exactly the same as your question, there’s a similar one that hopefully will be helpful to you.
