Running Shoe Review: Puma ForeverRun Nitro

The Puma ForeverRUN NITRO is a new addition to Puma’s running shoe line-up. It’s a support shoe designed for overpronators who want a comfortable, cushioned daily trainer. It features Puma’s NITRO foam which is the same as you’ll find in the Deviate NITRO Elite.

What and who is the Puma ForeverRUN NITRO for?

This is a shoe for runners shoe want/need a bit of stability from their running shoe but who also want a soft cushioned landing. It features Puma’s NITRO (a nitrogen-injected foam) midsole with two different densities of foam: there’s a softer core and a firmer rim. There’s also an asymmetrical heel counter to hold the foot in place during your run. It’s an everyday running shoe for easy and long runs.

How does the Puma ForeverRUN NITRO fit?

The shoe is true to size for my Uk size 6. There’s a good amount of space in the toe box – not too much, not too tight. My feet are on the narrower side and I was able to get a good fit from the mesh upper. The only place that it felt a little loose for me was around the ankle collar.

Is the Puma ForeverRUN NITRO comfortable?

This is a really comfortable shoe. The one-piece, mesh upper fits well – something that’s important in a support shoe – and my feet felt supported. The foam has a good amount of squish for a comfortable, soft landing and there’s a nice amount of padding behind the heel.

Running review Puma ForeverRUN NITRO

I love trying a new support shoe so I was excited to get this one on my feet and get running. Unfortunately it arrived just as I was about to run a half marathon so I had to hold off. That, did, however mean that I had the benefit of testing it with tired post-race legs. And the shoes were exactly what I needed. The NITRO foam is nice and soft without being overly squishy and my feet were very happy with the soft landing.

It had been a bit frosty and icy the past couple of days so the paths were wet and a bit slippery on my first test run, but this highlighted how well the PUMAGRIP works. This rubber outsole delivered great traction and I felt secure going round corners.

The support in this shoe comes from Puma’s PWRTAPE which is a strip of reinforcement in the upper and guide rails in the sole to keep your foot aligned and centred. I could definitely feel the shoe working to guide my foot. It felt like a good medium level of control – not as strong as something like the Saucony Guide, more akin to the Brooks Adrenaline.

Overall I think this is a really solid shoe and the design is a lot more streamlined and attractive than many support/stability shoes. My only criticism is that it was a little noisy on my runs when my foot was landing.
