What you need to know about carbon plated running shoes
Carbon plated running shoes have been making a lot of headlines over the past couple of yeas and have become more and more common at races.
As a shoe tester for Women’s Running magazine and The Run Testers over on YouTube, I’ve tried a number of pairs over the year. While I’ve experience of running races in them and testing them as a runner and a journalist, I wanted to speak to a physiotherapist about them.
I spoke to Dr Kathleen Walker who has been looking at the research around carbon plated running shoes. I asked her how they work, whether they’re right for all runners and what runners need to be aware of when thinking of incorporating them into their running and racing.
Dr Kathleen walker has been a physiotherapist for more than 20 years working in the NHS and private practice.
She has worked at major athletics championships and has been team physiotherapist for Wales women’s cricket side. She earned her a PhD researching interventions to help runners prevent and manage running injuries.
