Welcome to a new decade and goodbye the last one. For the most part it served us well. A new year and a new decade offers us the opportunity to wipe the slate clean and start again, but that’s sometimes a scary prospect. Yesterday I hit my target mileage for the year of 800 miles (to mark the finish line and the achievement I took this lovely photo). But with the striking of Big Ben and the clock ticking over to 2011 my mileage plummeted back down to a big fat zero. For the past 12 months I’ve been clocking up miles and smiling as the number grew, but now I’m starting again from nothing.
Rather than being scared by the empty page I’ve set myself some ambitious goals for 2011, pulled on my trainers for Day 1 of Janathon and started clocking up miles. I say miles but that’s a bit of a lie – I ran 1 mile, the bare minimum I’ve set myself for each day of Janathon.
My running goals for 2011
1) Run my second marathon – sub 4 hours
2) Sub 50 minute 10k PB
3) Sub 1.55 half-marathon PB
4) Complete Janathon – run every day in January
5) 1000 miles run in 2011
Feel free to leave your goals for the year in the comments – I’d love to hear them.
Well done for getting out there. Good luck for the rest of Janathon
It does feel quite weird when all the mileage gets reset to zero… Good luck with your 2011 goals. I’m aiming for similar ones, but a bit slower.
Good luck with all these goals and well done for completing 800 last year.
Happy New Year and well done for getting back out there this morning. Good luck!
well done for reaching your 800 mile target in 2010!
i aim to jog, walk and cycle 2011km this year, complete janathon and finish my 2nd half marathon next month in under 2.5 hrs. my first took 3hrs 5 mins, due to a knee injury and a lack of proper training. i plan to work much harder these two months.
oh, and i want/need to lose 8 to 10% of my body weight too …..
Good luck with your goals for 2011. And great effort for starting on the first of the month!
Good Luck with Janathon and 2011.
How much do you need to do to your times to get them down to your goals?
I’ve got 5 minutes to knock of my 10k to get to sub 50.
I’ve only gone for 500km this year, I’m sure I’m being too easy on myself though!
@runhelenrun I haven’t trained specifically for a 10k since my first one, I’ve just run them as part of training for longer races. I think focussing on one should get me sub 50. My last half training was interupted by 2 week holiday so although I PB’d, I know I can do better.
