Here’s a couple of dates to pencil in your diary: Sunday 9 August and Sunday 16 August 2012 – the dates being tipped for the men and women’s marathon events. I, for one, will not be leaving the city for the duration of the games and have my tent at the ready to be first in line for tickets.

Seeing the elites go past at this year’s London marathon was a very exciting event for me – I can hardly imagine how excited I’ll be when the world’s best are battling it out for a gold medal right on my doorstep.

The actual route of the Olympic marathon will apparently finish outside another Londoner’s front door. The Queen will get a great view of the athletes as the cross the line on The Mall. The rest of the route is still to be confirmed but is hoped to include some of London’s top sites such as St Paul’s Cathederal, the Houses of Parliament and the Tower of London. I regularly run past two out of three of these at lunchtimes so maybe the organisers should get me on board to make a few suggestions. One top tip I’d have for athletes is to nip into the Tate gallery if you’re caught short. Lovely loos.
