The folks over at Run Dem Crew, who I’ve yet to make it out with on a Tuesday night yet (I will soon, promise), posted this creative task that they’ve set their ‘youngsters’. It invites you to write your own running manifesto by finishing a few sentences. Here’s mine:
Running is…a privilege.
Running is not…a chore.
I run…away from things and towards things.
I run for…myself, and nobody else.
I run because…I can and because one day I might not be able to.
I run when…I’m happy and when I’m sad.
I run with…a smile on my face albeit often with sweat and snot running down it too.
I have never run…and regretted it after.
I have always run…like a Kenyan in my head, in reality I run more like a squirrel.
I run in spite of…the voice in my head telling me not to.
I don’t run…if I don’t feel like it – I saw who, I say when, I say how much.
I should run…faster if I keep at it.
I might run…today, or I might not – it’s up to me.
I will run…a sub-4 marathon.
Now go write you own.
Love it. Here’s mine.
Great idea. I’m off to write mine now.
Brilliant – just off to do mine too!
That’s clever, wish I had that when I wrote The Running Manifesto.
